The World of Books
Previously often times I thought of reading a book, completing Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or A Song of Ice and Fire. I always tried, but could never read beyond a few pages. At that time my main objective was just to read a book and complete it. I was reading it purely for the sake of reading it. It was like that for a long time, I bought a lot of books in hopes of completing them. But there was this one element, this one element that was missing for me, why? Why do I want to read that book or this book? Was it purely for the sake of social validation, or was there something deeper behind it?
I got my answer, it was a mixture of all of those, and I considered reading books an elite habit despite never reading one. I romanticized it before I ever read once. But now that I have started my journey, I am romanticizing it ever more.
One thing I would to say to everyone who wants to start reading, and buy books, don't worry, buying books is never a waste of money. It is just that you are waiting for the correct moment to read. So buy books and wait for the correct opportunity to strike, just as it happened with me. I had bought The Kite Runner few months ago, read the first page, but never continued. It was lying there on my desk, dust cloaked, waiting for someone to take a glance at it. And its wait was over on an unusual cold night in March. I was sad, feeling turmoil, and my mind was flooded with plethora of emotions, all clouded. That's when I picked up this book and started reading out of nowhere. My roommates were about to sleep, hence I went to the study room on the ground floor. Many other students were there, with there laptop on the desk, coding and completing assignments. While they were busy in the world of coding, I took a dive into the memories of Amir, the main character of the book, The Kite Runner. As I was not just reading Amir's journey, I was Amir. Going through different stages in life, of friendship, loyalty, betrayal, and love. That's how my journey began.
Whenever someone asks me what is the perfect book to start reading or which book would you recommend, I always tell them, there is no perfect book, it's the scenario that makes the book perfect. If you are feeling emotional, and want to feel even more emotional then look through the eyes of Amir in The Kite Runner, if you are facing existential crisis, then analyze the characters of Kafka, if you are fed up with the government, the state, the society, then explore the dystopian world of 1984, and if you are exhausted, tired of everything, then leave this cruel world escape into the magical world of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, become Harry, become Aragorn, defeat the Dark Lord, and after that become Samwise Gamgee, live rest of your life peacefully in your small cozy garden, reading newspaper and taking sips of tea.
